Copythorne Steam & Vintage Rally 11 June 2017

After Amberley Museum the second stop of the day was at Copythorne Steam and Vintage Rally. This was an excellent compact event which had a number of things to see including 11 full size steam one of which was new to me.

The next planned stop was at West Bay, but as with Saturday the best laid plans do not always work as when I got to West Bay all I found was a big red 'Cancelled' sign.  Note to self - always check websites the night before.  Luckily it was on route back from the other two so not too bad.

Amberley Museum 11 June 2017

After spending Saturday night at the Travelodge at Heston Services the plan today was to start at the Mid-Summer Steam Show at Amberley Museum then drive back home to Devon via the Copythorne Steam and Vintage Rally (near Southampton) and then the Vintage Rally at West Bay.

First part of the plan worked out well and arrived at Amberley just after it opened.  Barrie Woods excellent Museum Guide suggested that there could be a few based here and the website indicated some visitors so I arrived in anticipation of seeing a good number of engines.  Unfortunately only three visitors and not as many based engines about as I thought there would be, so a bit disappointed.  Having said that if I had come here with no pre-conceived ideas it would have been fine and there is plenty of other things to see here including a number of trains and it is a good half day out.

Stoke Row 10 June 2017

As set out in the Marlborough post, for various reasons this weekend didn't start as planned, I meant to get to Marlborough as it opened but didn't leave Devon until after 2 pm.  Which meant getting to Marlborough after 4 and Stoke Row close to 6 pm which was after a few things were being wrapped up for the night.  The third on the list for the day (Belper) was obviously not attempted given the time.  To satisfy my curiosity if anyone could let me know any information on the attendees at Belper I would be grateful.

This as my second visit to Stoke Row and as with the first visit a couple of years ago it looked a good event.  Unfortunately I arrived late while everything was being put away and whilst I think I managed to get a picture of all of the full size steam a number were being wrapped up for the night.  There were three here which was more than I expected and a nice suprise.

This small(ish) event at Rainscombe Park was very friendly and had a small but varied selection of full size steam including a couple that I had not seen before which is always a bonus.
